Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme for the wards of RPF/RPSF: In his address to the nation from the storied Red Ford on August 15, 2005, the then-honorable prime minister of India introduced the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) which the National Defense Fund administered. The department launched The Prime Minister’s Scholarship Program for Railway Protection Force (RPF) as well as the Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) in the academic year 2008–09. They implemented a scheme to encourage dependent wards of former or current RPF or RPSF members and widows (below the gazetted officer rank) to pursue further technical and professional education.

Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme for the wards of RPF/RPSF

One hundred fifty students (from 2015–16) of RPF’s children are eligible for the current academic year. Seventy-five female applicants will get scholarships. If there are fewer than 75 applications (boys or girls), a shortage of new cases will not be made up for. Courses Eligible for the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS):

Students pursuing Professional degree programs such as BE, B.Tech., BDS, MBBS, BEd, BBS, BCA, and MCA B. Pharma are eligible for Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme for the wards of RPF/RPSF. These programs should be approved by the relevant government regulatory bodies, including the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), the University Grants Commission (UGC), and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Master degree programs, except MBA and MCA, are not eligible for PMSS. This program is not open to students who are studying abroad. No

Students Eligible for the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS)

  • Only students who enrolled in regular admission for 2022–2023 are qualified for PMSS 2022–2023 enrollment.
  • Students must have at least a 60% average in the Minimum Entry Qualification (MEQ), equivalent to a diploma or graduation from high school.
  • Only two wards per family are eligible for the scholarship, which must be guaranteed by both the recipients and the relevant zonal railways or RPSF.
  • Universities, colleges, and institutes may apply. Only institutions, universities, and colleges that AISHE governs will be allowed.

Amount of Scholarship

The amount of Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme for the wards of RPF/RPSF would be as follows: 

  • 2500/- per month for male students.
  • 3000/- per month for female students

Duration of the Scholarship

  • Two to five years as per the duration of the course

How to Apply for Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS)

The National Scholarship Portal (NSP 2.0) is being used to implement the PMSS for RPF (Ministry of Railways) as of the 2017–18 academic year. All qualified candidates must submit an online application starting with the academic year 2023–24 at official govt scholarship portal. The Security Directorate will generate the final list of qualified applicants. And will be submitted to the PMO by the Railway Board.

A mobile number is mandatory to register on the National Scholarships Portal, on which The department will receive a One-Time Password (OTP) for further processing. Users can register a maximum of two registrations with a mobile number. Students will ensure the college/institute/university has registered with AISHE and they have the AISHE Code/Regulation.

For Fresh Applicant:

  1. Service Certificate issued by respective offices of the serving personnel for category IV. (As per Annexure II).
  2. A copy of the PPO/Discharge certificate/book for Categories I, II, and III.
  3. Applicants must upload a scanned copy of the MEQ mark sheet/Grade card, i.e., 10+2/ Diploma/Graduation (as the case may be).

For Renewal Applicant:

  1. Latest Service Certificate issued by respective offices of the serving personnel for category IV. (As per Annexure II).
  2. Applicants must upload a scanned copy of the previous class mark sheet/Grade card/Proof of gradation to the next class issued by the competent authority. (as the case may be).
