Eligibility Criteria for Postgraduate (PG) Scholarship

Only students enrolled in the first Postgraduate (PG) Degree program are eligible for National Scholarship for postgraduate (PG) students. Candidates who hold a postgraduate degree already are not eligible to apply.

Only those who have been accepted into a PG degree program at a university, college, or other approved institution and are currently enrolled in its first year are eligible to apply.

Scholarships for integrated programs are only awarded for the postgraduate portion.

To apply under National Scholarship for postgraduate (PG) students’ schemes, a student must be under thirty years of age on the date of admission to the first semester or year of a postgraduate program.

Only those who are accepted into PG degree programs via the “Regular/Full Time” mode are eligible for the scholarship.

The scholarship is only available to students who are enrolled in approved postgraduate programs that lead to the specified postgraduate degrees that the UGC notifies students of from time to time. Specifically, the course duration and nomenclature must match the UGC Notification on Specification of Degrees, 2014, as amended from time to time.

The student’s parents’ annual income should not exceed Rs. 8 lakh. (This is the anticipated amount; the family’s yearly income is not stated in official documents.)

Selection Procedure

The selection process will strictly be based on the candidates’ merits, with the exception of “Single/Twin/Fraternal Girl Child” cases.

According to the Government of India’s reservation policy, the slots will be assigned. But thirty percent of the positions will be set aside for female applicants.

Additionally, 50% of the slots under each category are reserved for programs in the arts, humanities and social sciences, law, and management, and the remaining 50% are reserved for programs in science, engineering and technology, medicine, technology, forestry, and agriculture.

If there is a tie or multiple candidates with identical marks from their undergraduate program, the lowest-ranking candidates on the merit list will be further shortlisted or sorted based on their undergrad marks (UG).

In the event that the number of candidates on the merit list exceeds the number of desired or declared slots, additional shortlisting will be conducted based on the candidates’ XII class marks.

The NSP will typically announce the results in the months of November and December of that same year.

Through the National Scholarship Portal, candidates can access their results by entering the User ID and Password they created when submitting their online application.

Scholarship Amount

Under the “National Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies” scheme, UGC awards approximately ten thousand (10000) National Scholarships to Indian students to pursue higher education within India at the rate of Rs 15,000/-per month for ten months per year.
