National Means Cum Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS): for eighth graders students. Students in class 9 who received at least 55% of the possible points or an equivalent grade in the class 8 test are eligible to apply for the National Means Cum Merit Scholarship Scheme. The Department of School Education and Literacy of the Government of India offers this scheme.
The scholarship seeks financial help for deserving students from economically disadvantaged groups to prevent dropping to the eighth grade. So, this scheme encourages them to continue their education at the secondary level. A Central Sector Program called the “National Means-of-Merit Scholarship Scheme” (NMMSS) was introduced in May 2008 to offer scholarships to deserving students in grades IX through XII.
