“Ishan Uday” Special Scholarship Scheme For North Eastern Region

an initiative for scholarships from the University Grants Commission and the Ministry of Education. The UGC has chosen to launch the “Ishan Uday” Special Scholarship Scheme for North Eastern Region beginning with the academic session 2014–15. The scheme is intended to improve the GER, promote higher education, and encourage children from the economically disadvantaged sections of the NE region. The UGC has a particular interest in promoting higher education in the NER. The Ministry of, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, the North Eastern Council, Shillong, State Governments, Central & State Universities, and other stakeholders were all consulted extensively by the UGC prior to the scheme’s launch. The scholar will receive their award as of the date they enrolled in the course, as verified by the college, university, or institution.

The following students meet the eligibility requirements: NER-dwelling students whose parents’ combined annual income does not exceed ₹4,50,000. Passed the XII exam or its equivalent in the year before, 2021 in the case of applications requested for the academic year 2021–2022, and gained admission to the first year of any degree program.

Objective

1) To give the Northeastern Region equal access to postsecondary education.

2) To raise the Northeast Region’s Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER).

3) To increase the NE Region’s emphasis on professional education.

4) Making the best use of the NER budgetary allocation.

SCOPE

10,000 new scholarships are awarded annually to students enrolled in general degree programs, technical programs, professional programs, including medical and paramedical programs, as verified by the Registrar, Principal, or Director of the university, college, or institute.

Benefits 

1) Every year, UGC will give out 10,000 (ten thousand) brand-new scholarships.

2) The monthly tuition for general degree courses is ₹5,400, while the monthly tuition for technical, medical, professional, and paramedical courses is ₹7,800.

3) The scholar will receive their award as of the date they enrolled in the course, as verified by the college, university, or institution.

4) The UGC will pay scholarships (as verified by the institutions included in this program) to the chosen students via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Mode, and the funds will be deposited into the recipients’ bank accounts. The PFMS will be used to finish this process.

Reward

Ishan Uday scholarship for NER disburses a total of 10,000 scholarships at the rate of up to INR 7,800 per month every year to the selected students. The scholarship amount is paid to the selected candidates through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) mode into their bank accounts. The number of scholarships allocated to each North Eastern State is done on the basis of the population of the respective State (as per the latest Census report). The details of Ishan Uday scholarship amount are highlighted below.

  • The students who are pursuing general degree courses are eligible to avail of a scholarship amount of INR 5,400 per month till the completion of their courses.
  • A monthly scholarship amount of INR 7,800 is given to those selected students who are pursuing technical/medical/professional/paramedical courses.

Eligibility

  • The applicant needs to reside in NER’s territory.
  • The applicant’s parents’ combined annual income should not be more than ₹4,50,000.
  • For applications called for the current year, the candidate must have passed Class 12th or its equivalent in the previous academic year.
  • The candidate must have been accepted into the first year of a degree program, whether it be a general degree program or
  • Only general degree programs, technical and professional programs, including medical and paramedical programs, as certified by the registrar, principal, or director of any of the following universities, colleges, or institutes, are eligible for the scholarship:
  • Colleges, universities, and other institutions covered by UGC Act Sections 2(f) and 12(B).
  • Considered to be universities covered by Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, and qualified to obtain UGC grants-in-aid.
  • Central and state government-funded colleges, universities, and other institutions.
  • Nationally Significant Institutes.
  • Organizations acknowledged by both internal and external Statutory Councils.
  • The AISHE code should have been used when applying to the university, institution, or college.

RENEWALS 

  • Scholarships awarded under the program are renewable for the duration of the first degree program, provided that the recipients maintain the required attendance and behave well.
  • Upon receipt of an annual progress report, which will be approved by the administrative head of the University, Institution, or College, the scholarship will be extended for the subsequent academic year.(For instance, the principal of the college, the director of the institution, the university registrar, or any other officer they designate).
  • Students would lose their scholarship if they weren’t advanced to the next level or class.
  • A change in the study plan will not be accepted. Should the recipient decide to alter their course of study, the scholarship will be lost as of the change date.
  • The UGC will oversee and carry out the Scheme.
  • Previous year’s awardees will stick to the UGC pattern of support via Canara Bank’s designated bank branches.

Exclusions

Under this scheme, the following will not be eligible:

1) Students enrolled in programs or courses offered by Open Universities.

2) Students who are currently receiving scholarships from other programs to pursue an undergraduate degree.

3) Students admitted based on “managerial quota”

4) Enrolling in courses like diploma programs does not result in the awarding of a degree to the student.

5) Students enrolled in diploma-granting programs whose parents earn more than ₹4,50,000 annually are not eligible to receive a degree.

Application Process

Step 1: Keep ready the soft copies of the required documents. Go to http://www.scholarships.gov.in/. and click “New Registration”. Guidelines for Registration will appear. Scroll to the bottom. Read carefully the undertaking. Accept the Terms. Click “Continue”.

Step 2: A Registration Form will appear. (The fields marked as * are compulsory) Fill the details and click “Register”. Your Application ID and password will be displayed. The same will also be sent as an SMS on your registered mobile number.

Step 3: Go to https://scholarships.gov.in/fresh/newstdRegfrmInstruction Click on “Login to Apply”. Enter your Application ID and password. Type the Captcha and click “Login”. On the next screen, provide the OTP received on your registered mobile number. You will be directed to the Password Reset screen. Create a new password and confirm. Click “Submit”. You will be directed to the “Applicant’s Dashboard”.

Step 4: On the left pane, click “Application Form”. The fields marked as * are compulsory. Fill the details and upload the documents. You can either click on “Save as Draft” to complete the application later. Else, click “Final Submit” to submit the application.

Documents Required

  • Domicile certificate to be issued by the competent authority.
  • Proof of annual income is to be issued by the competent authority.
  • For renewals, the annual progress report and continuation of studies will be required to be uploaded/ verified by the concerned University/ Institution/ College.
